Whilst on our buying trip in freezing cold and windy Copenhagen, I wanted to share a couple of new found places were we had some wonderful food and drinks ..
In the heart of Copenhagen is a very old lunch establishment called KRONBORG, (like the famous castle) and I think it has been there just as long ! But in November of 2011 two lovely men (Claus and Walter) took over the place and took it back to the core of homemade food and Danish coziness. Going to Copenhagen having open sandwiches or ‘Smorrebrod’ is a must, but there are many places that will give it a bad name and taste, but not at Kronborg !

We had beautiful Pan fried fillet of plaice with homemade “remoulade” (a kind of pickle) followed by chicken salad and traditional Danish meat balls with red cabbage and picked cucumber. We had “Jacobsen” beer, a new beer from Carlsberg but from their micro brewery and Fi had a very sensible sized schnapps.. what a lunch! We left happy and full and a little tiny bit tipsy (well Fi anyway).

After a long day of buying we needed something soothing and quick so we left for the old meat packing district in Copenhagen, to a fabulous no nonsense Pizza restaurant called MOTHER. There is a good selection of organic sourdough pizzas and the prices are really reasonable. We all shared a little corner of each, but only a little corner!!

On our last night in Copenhagen we met with the lovely Marie from AIAYU to have a good laugh and chat about the week that had passed and life in general. She had suggested this little place tucked away behind the Royal Theater called RETOUR. And my god I am going to retour there !!

The chef behind the restaurant is Ramus Oubaek, in Denmark he is known as the king of Steaks, he used to run a Michelin star restaurant, but in November last year he returned to more basic cooking and opened up RETOUR. The place is small and intimate and the service is close to the best I have ever had, friendly, cheeky and at times all most mind reading ! We were lucky because we didn’t have a reservation, and during Fashion Week it’s difficult to find a decent place if you haven’t booked days in advance.

Needless to say Fi and Gugge had the famous Ribeye steaks with homemade fries and Bernaise. Marie and I opted for Steak Tatar with fries and salad, something I love but rarely eat. The dessert was shared between us, sumptuous profiteroles with homemade ice-cream and chocolate sauce and small Madelaine cakes…….yummy. We had……several bottles of a very nice Italian Barbera and could easy have stayed a lot longer, but alas we had to leave a get some sleep before the last meetings on Friday morning.
